• Product Overview: UV-123 (CAS 129757-67-1)

UV-123 is a NOR® (N-alkoxy) hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) with low basicity. It is chemically bis(1-octyloxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate, typically supplied as a slightly yellow to yellow viscous liquid . Unlike conventional HALS, the NOR functional group significantly reduces basicity and interaction with acidic components, making it ideal for coatings containing acid catalysts and for agricultural films with pesticide residues . UV-123 effectively protects polymers from gloss reduction, cracking, blistering, and delamination

  • Performance Advantages
Low Basicity (NOR® HALS): Minimal interaction with acidic components (catalyst residues, pesticides, acids).
Excellent Crack Resistance: Prevents gloss loss, cracking, blistering, and delamination in coatings .
Broad Solubility: Soluble >50 g/100g in acetone, butyl acetate, hexane, xylene, and other organic solvents .
Synergistic: Works effectively with UV absorbers (e.g., benzotriazoles) to significantly improve weathering performance.
Polymer Compatibility: Suitable for acrylics, polyurethanes, PVC, PVB, polyolefins (PP, PE, TPO), and adhesives

    Applications & End-uses

UV-123 is a versatile light stabilizer for demanding applications where acidic environments or catalyst residues are present

    Automotive OEM & Refinish Coatings

    Industrial Coatings (Coil, Can, Wood)

    Acid-catalyzed coatings

    Agricultural films (PE/PP with pesticides)

    Polyurethane adhesives & sealants

    PVC & PVB plastisols

    TPO/TPE automotive parts

    Polypropylene (PP) & HDPE

    Polystyrene & ABS

    Decorative paints & wood stains

    Automotive & Industrial Coatings

UV-123 is especially recommended for high-performance industrial coatings and automotive clearcoats where catalyst residues (acid) are present. It effectively prevents gloss loss, cracking, and delamination during accelerated weathering Studies show that 0.3-0.5% UV-123 in clearcoats retains >90% gloss after 2,000 hours QUV exposure

    Agricultural Films
The NOR functionality makes UV-123 uniquely suitable for agricultural films treated with sulfur-containing pesticides, which would deactivate conventional HALS. It extends film life by 2-3× in aggressive chemical environments
